Dan and I spent many hours talking about music (not least about his incredible collection of obscure records, which I’m very envious of) for the film, and how we could bring the sound of his experiences while filming, as well as recordings he made in Montana directly into the score. I have so much appreciation for him and Rupert, who were so patient and encouraging, while I experimented deeply with homemade instruments, field recordings and lots of e-bowed slide banjo to find a unique world for such a unique film.
